Vehicle Slams into MD Townhouse, Sparks Fire

Montgomery County firefighters had to extricate the driver, who later died of his injuries.

A man is dead after his vehicle slammed into a townhouse and sparked a fire in Gaithersburg Monday afternoon.

The driver was pinned and had to be extricated by Montgomery County firefighters. While that was ongoing, other crews were hitting the flames. according to a tweet from Pete Piringer, MCFRS PIO. 

The driver was transported to a hospital where he died.

Two occupants of the house ran to a balcony on the back of the house. One was rescued by a civilian using a painter's ladder while the other was assisted by firefighters.

The investigation of the Orchard Ridge Drive crash is continuing.
