Four people are in critical condition after the Magoffin County School District bus went down an embankment and landed on its side.

A Magoffin County, KY, School District bus carrying 18 students crashed Monday morning, sending the driver and several students to nearby hospitals, some in critical condition.

WKZO reports that the bus went down an embankment and landed on its side off of Route 40 on its way to Salyersville, about 80 miles east of Lexington.

Magoffin County Judge Executive Matthew Wireman tells LEX 18 two students were flown out and the rest who were injured were transported by ground to surrounding hospitals.

Four are in critical condition.

The bus driver was also injured, according to Wireman, and flown out.

The Salyersville Independent says the driver was ejected and partially pinned under the bus.

Gov. Andy Beshear called it a "significant accident" and asked everyone to keep these children in their thoughts.
