NC Firefighters Battling Massive 5-Alarm Fire

A massive fire is burning in Charlotte’s South Park neighborhood Thursday morning.

Reports and emergency radio traffic indicate the fire involves a parking garage construction zone and firefighters were actively engaged in controlling the situation amid concerns of possible collapse. Video from the scene and radio traffic between first responders indicated part of the garage structure collapsed before 10 a.m.

The fire is in the area of South Park Business Park towers near Fairview Road and Piedmont Row Drive, according to first responders.

Paramedics said it was a “very busy scene” with several police and fire department units.

With a huge response from Charlotte Fire, Medic, police, the public is urged to not use 911 Thursday except in true emergency situations.

The Charlotte Fire Department confirmed a third alarm was called for the fire. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
