A man and a woman were hospitalized in serious condition after a massive fire erupted in the Central-Alameda neighborhood of Los Angeles Tuesday morning.

Five of the seven buildings that burned were destroyed, Los Angeles fire officials told KTLA.

It took more than 140 firefighters over an hour to control the blaze. 

While the cause is not known, firefighters said it started at a multi-family residential building that was in the framing stages of construction.
