Three Goshen firefighters are OK after close calls at a house fire Thursday night
Two fell into the basement and another was trapped on the second floor, Goshen Fire Chief Peter Easop Sr. wrote on the department's Facebook page.
"About 22 minutes into operations, the bulk of the fire was knocked down on the first floor, and companies were advancing to the second floor via the interior stairs, when the interior stairs and the safety ladder placed over them collapsed into the basement. Two Goshen firefighters fell into the basement during the collapse, and a third firefighter was trapped on the second floor at the top of the stairs," the statement read.
The firefighter at the top of the stairs evacuated the building by ladder placed at a second-floor window.
The Firefighter Assist and Search Team (FAST) and others already in the house helped the firefighter who partially fell while the one who fell completely into the basement was assisted to the interior stairs.
The trio was treated on the scene by Goshen EMS.
"The Goshen Fire Department extends its heartfelt thanks and appreciation to our mutual aid partners for their assistance, and in particular the Firefighter Assist and Search Teams who responded quickly and professionally to assist our members," the chief wrote.
