Moore, OK, Firefighters Train for Hoarder House Fires

March 22, 2024
The cluttered house gives Moore firefighters an opportunity to experience the challenges they may face.

Hoarding conditions create danger and challenges for firefighters.

That's why Moore firefighters are training for them.

A cluttered house with items donated by the Goodwill strewn around gives crews an idea what they may encounter, KOKH reported.

"Having this type of scenario set up gives our personnel the opportunity to do some live, real-life training...We really appreciate the opportunity to be able to do some real training; and better prepare our firefighters to serve the citizens," Fire Chief Greg Herbster said.

Cluttered homes can make it more difficult to locate and safely remove a victim.

"It is a huge life safety issue when we have these type of hoarder conditions, especially for the residents of the house."
