Videos: FDNY Crews Battle Several Multiple Alarm Blazes

Firefighters responded to five-alarm fires in Manhattan and the Bronx Saturday and a third alarm in Brooklyn Sunday.

FDNY firefighters responded to several large-scale fires over the weekend, damaging buildings in the Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn. FDNY firefighter Patrick Brady died after responding to an all-hands working fire in Brooklyn late Saturday.

Around 11 a.m. Saturday, a Bronx fire reached five alarms (see video below) after it spread from an vehicle repair shop to adjacent homes.

“When our units arrived, we had heavy fire throughout the motor vehicle repair shop," said Chief of Department Joseph Esposito. "We attempted to enter and extinguish the fire, but there was a significant amount of fire and concerns about structural stability. We did have a collapse in the rear of the building, but our members were able to identify the danger and exit safely before it occurred."

A second alarm was called shortly after they arrived.

As the fire spread to two adjoining homes, the fire reached five alarms with crews using tower ladders and hoselines to control the blaze.

Four firefighters were injured.

Manhattan Fire

Another fire-alarm fire swept through a Manhattan apartment building (watch video below) Saturday night.

Firefighters were dispatched to Fort Washington Avenue near 164th Street shortly before 11 p.m. where they encountered on several floors of a six-story building, ABC7NY.com reported.

FDNY officials said the fire spread from the fifth floor to the sixth floor before is spread to the attic of the building.

Three firefighters and six residents were injured in the blaze.

 

Brooklyn Fire

Two firefighters were injured Sunday afternoon after a fire broke out in a Brooklyn laundrymat.

The fire reached three alarms.

FDNY officials told CBS New York that the firefighters sustained non-serious injuries during the fire on Manhattan Avenue.
