CO FFs Fight Two Wildfires

May 13, 2022
Colorado Springs firefighters battled two wildfires, including one near the airport.

Firefighters in Colorado Springs responded to two fires in the city and officials have issued evacuation orders.

Denver7 ABC reported that one of the fires — called the Akerman Fire — burned 30 acres before it was 100 percent contained late last night.

Local residents and an elementary school were evacuated.

The other fire — called the Skylark Mobile Home Park Fire — destroyed eight mobile homes, but no injuries were reported.

CSFD Lt. Aaron McConnellogue said the call for this fire came in at 11:36 a.m., according to a KOAA reporter at the scene. Resources took some time to arrive due to multiple other fires, he said.

About 50 firefighters responded to this fire, KOAA reported.
