Lightning from a severe thunderstorm ignited a fire in an apartment complex that damaged several apartment units. Several other units were also damaged from smoke and water.

Fire crews responded from Lyndon, Middletown and Saint Matthews fire districts in eastern Jefferson County, as well as from the Worthington Volunteer Fire Department.

The fire seated itself in void areas between floors and walls, making extinguishment difficult. High temperatures and humidity made fighting the blaze difficult as well, causing several firefighters to be treated for heat exhaustion.

Control of the fire was gained after a lengthy battle. None of the residents of the complex were injured.
