A two-alarm fire destroyed a vacant building in Rochester around 2:30 a.m. on June 15.

Crews were called to Bay St. and Siegel St. for smoke from a vacant apartment building. Dispatched were: Quint 7/Midi 7 Engine 16, Engine 17, Battalion 1, Rescue 11 and Engine 1 as the RIC.

Engine 17 arrived to find heavy smoke showing from the two-story, 20 by 40 building.

The Protectives and deputy chief were dispatched as well.

When the deputy chief arrived he requested a second alarm, and Quint/Midi 6, Engines 12 and 13 were assigned.

It appears the fire started in the basement and extended through the walls of the building before breaking through the roof. Firefighters were initially inside and were later pulled out, and used hoses and aerial master streams to knock down the fire.
