The Gastonia Fire Department and the Agricultural Center Fire Department responded to Action Demolition just off Highway 321 North on Tuesday morning to find numerous scrap cars and miscellaneous scrap metals on fire. A second engine was dispatched and a tanker truck from Agricultural Center Fire Department was requested for water supply.
The fire was extinguished using approximately 5000 gallons of water and 50 gallons of foam. Gastonia Fire Captain Craig Huffstetler said, "The fire appears to have started by workers using a cutting torch."
The first Gastonia Fire unit arrived at 7:30 a.m. and the last unit cleared the scene at 9:17 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
