At 5:30 am, two ambulances were headed to hospital, one with a patient and the other following behind.
As the ambulances went through an intersection, a collision occured between the second ambulance and another vehicle, sending the ambulance sliding into a fire hydrant.
Fire crews were dispatched to assist at the collision and arrived on scene shortly after. They found a fountain of water spraying 25 feet into the air and a single male trapped in the vehicle.
They started extrication immediately, requesting additional units (Engine 7, Rescue 8, Rescue 2, and Battalion Chief 1).
The driver of the vehicle had head trauma and was transported to the hospital.
The driver of the ambulance had only minor injuries and stayed on the scene to assist.
