On Wednesday, May 30, 2006, units from Salisbury Fire Department (Stations 16, 1) and Fruitland Fire Department (Station 3) responded to an evening building fire.
Units leaving quarters noticed a large column of smoke approximately a mile away. First arriving Engine 16-1 reported a one story multi-occupancy office building with fire showing from Side A and from the roof.
The engine company quickly stretched and operated a 2-1/2" line making an aggressive attack on the bulk of the fire.
Engine crew of Engine 301 stretched two backup lines and assisted in knocking down the bulk of the visible fire.
The severe conditions were due to the fact that the fire occupancy was used as a beauty school.
Numerous aerosol and chemical products contributed to the fire load. Extensive overhaul kept units on the scene for a lengthy amount of time.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause.
