On March 31, 2004 at 22:51 the City of Lawrence was dispatched on Box 340 for a dryer fire in a residence at 6081 Middle Drive.
First due Engine 30 arrived and found a single story residence with heavy fire showing from two sides of the structure. Lieutenant Kempfer gave a size up, marked a working fire and transferred command to Ladder 40's Lieutenant Wert. Engine 30's crew advanced a 1 3/4 line through the front door with Ladder 40's crew performing a primary search and completing exterior truck operations.
Battalion Chief Mulhern arrived and assumed command and ordered a third engine for Ritt along with cover equipment to fill depleted stations.
Ambulance 37 met up with Ladder 40's exterior crew and placed a second 1 3/4 line into operation and completed a primary search for occupants. Engine 334 from Lawrence Township completed a secondary search and it was determined all occupants were out of the residence.
The fire was under control in 15 minutes. Units remained on scene for another hour completing overhaul and loss prevention.
The fire is currently under investigation by the City of Lawrence Fire Investigation division.
