Shortly before 2pm, on April 20, 2006, one of the hottest days in April, Camden, New Jersey firefighters were dispatched to the 1500 block of Park Boulevard in the Parkside section of South Camden.
While Units were responding Fire Radio updated them that they were receiving numerous calls of a Working Fire with possible people trapped. The first in Units reported that they had a heavily involved two story dwelling and were going in Service. An All Hands Box was struck bringing an additional Chief and Engine Company.
Firefighters were able to enter the front of the building with two 1- 3/4" lines while the Rescue Company and Ladder Companies went to work on search and ventilation.
Firefighters were able to knock the bulk of the fire down in less than 10 minutes and found that all the occupants had safely evacuated the dwelling.
Due to the extreme heat many fire fighters suffered heat exhaustion and extra Camden EMS Units were added to the Box.
Camden EMS supplied liquid refreshment and wet towels to the exhausted fire fighters. One Camden captain was treated at the scene and transported to Cooper Hospital by EMS.
Deputy Chief Tom Quinn placed the fire Under Control and the fire is being investigated by the Camden City Fire Marshal's Office.
