On April 11, 2006 at 3:23 am, Brownsville Fire Company #1 (Station 5), and South Brownsville Fire Department (Station 6) were dispatched to a reported vehicle into a wall with injuries on Albany Road in Brownsville Township.
5 Rescue responded along with 6 Engine 1, and Brownsville Ambulance Service. BASI was the first to arrive on scene followed by 5 Rescue. Upon arriving on scene 5 Chief assumed command and was advised by the Medics that we had a possible DOA.
5 Chief advised 6E1 to block off Albany Road at Market Street and also requested that Station 30 Newell respond one truck to block the road off by Assad Iron and Metals while 5 Rescue remained on scene.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:35am by deputy coroner John Duke with the cause of death, pending toxicology results, to be blunt force trauma to the head, face, and chest, along with lower extremity fractures.
The Pennsylvania State Police responded their Records and Identification unit to the scene to assist Brownsville Police with the investigation of the accident.
After conducting their investigation the Police estimated the speed of the car to be around 65-70 mph at impact. Once the Coroner arrived on scene we were given the ok to extricate the victim from the car. Using our spreaders and cutters we removed the drivers' side door to allow the Coroner to remove the victim from the wreckage.
Once the victim was removed all fire units cleared the scene and Brownsville Police remained on scene to await the arrival of the tow truck.
