On Wednesday March 30, 2006, around 1am, San Juan County Fire Department received a call of a working commercial structure fire at the Nageezi Chapter House.
First units on scene requested a second alarm calling for more apparatus and manpower from surrounding districts. About 10 units of apparatus and about 30 firefighters as far away as 60 miles fought the blazing inferno for about 5 hours. Units remained on scene for more than 10 hours for hot spots and "Mop Up" process.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated at this time by San Juan County Joint Fire and Explosion Task Force, along with Navajo Nation Criminal Investigations, the ATF, and the FBI.
