At 9:45 PM on Tuesday, February 24, 2004, a fire broke out in a vacant Hempstead, New York home.

This large, two-family abandoned private dwelling was destroyed by a fast moving fire. The all-wood construction fed this fierce fire as volunteers did their best to keep it from spreading to adjoining structures.

Chief Rook of the Hempstead Fire Department was in command.
