About 3am, the residents of the farm awoke to find a fire in their 100-year-old barn.

Inside the barn were 82 Holsteins and a lot of hay. The owner was able to save about 60 cows, although several have died since then.

The request for aid escalated to a forth alarm for tankers. Help came from Kenosha County, Racine County and northern Illinois.

It was cold and eventually, everything was covered in ice.

The fire is under investigation, but is believed to be electrical in nature.

Neighbors came and took the remaining herd so they could have shelter, get fed and milked.
