The Florida, New York Fire Department was dispatched to this structure fire on the evening of Thursday, January 29, 2004.
First units on scene found this 75 ft. x 150 ft. farm warehouse fully involved.
The area had no hydrants and command immediately requested a second alarm for additional tankers from neighboring mutual aid companies. A third alarm was also requested a short time later bringing additional pumpers and a tower ladder to the scene.
The building was used for storage of tractors, fork lifts and various other farm equipment and supplies. An adjacent building that contained tractor trailers was an exposure problem. Units established a sustained water supply using 5 inch diameter hose to protect the exposure.
Temperatures during firefighting operations hovered around 15 degrees, causing ice to form quickly. Frozen equipment and slippery footing made the battle all the more difficult.
