It took L.A. Firefighters 20 minutes to control an intense blaze that destroyed a couple of garages behind the 100 block of East Gage Avenue in South (Central) Los Angeles.
Firefighters from station 33 located just two blocks away from the fire were first on scene. The fire, located on both sides of the alley, spread to a shed, a telephone and power pole.
For a short time the radio frequency was quickly cleared for "emergency traffic" as the top end of a telephone came crashing down in a shower of sparks.
The blaze was knocked down with several handlines advanced from both streets parallel to the involved alley, keeping the exposures in check.
Damage was extensive, there were no reported injuries, the cause of the late night fire is under investigation.
