At 8:30 am, on Saturday, January 28, 2006, The Cranston Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire at 277 Webster Avenue.
When Crews arrived on scene they reported they had an apartment fire on the second floor of a 3 story wood frame. Crews began an aggressive attack to knock the fire down.
Engine 4 reported the fire was in the walls and extending upwards. Conditions were deteriorating rapidly inside the structure.
At 8:45 am, the incident commander ordered everyone out of the structure. The alert tones were sounded and all firefighters reported to the front of the building. The fire quickly raced up the walls of the structure and was now venting through the cockloft and roof area. The cockloft flashed over and consumed the upper floors and roof of the structure.
A tower ladder was put into operation along with two ladder pipes. Within 20 minutes the fire was darkening down and crews went back to an interior attack.
It took crews 2 hours to bring the blaze under control.
American Red Cross was dispatched to find shelter for four displaced families. Luckily no one was injured from this morning fire.
