Units from Stillwater, Oklahoma Stations 1, 2 and 3 were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 6400 North Perkins Rd. at 11:45 AM on January 11, 2004. Units were under the command of Acting Battalion Chief R. Hauf (Battalion 1).
Pumper 3 was first on scene and reported they had a fully involved storage building in close proximity to a mobile home which was becoming involved. A smaller aluminum mobile home was also fully involved exposing another mobile home to the east and fire was rapidly spreading to the north through dry grass. A single lane narrow driveway which did not extend fully to the site made access difficult for firefighters.
Battalion 1 arrived and directed Pumper 3 to begin attack with two 1 3/4 inch lines supplied from the 1000 gallon tank on their truck. Rural 2 was assigned to attack and extinguish the grass fire which was quickly accomplished. Pumper 1 was assigned to supply Pumper 3 through a 3 inch supply line from their 1000 gallon tank.
Initial efforts were directed to save the mobile home exposed to the burning storage shed and, although the home was damaged, these efforts were successful.
There are no hydrants in the area, so Rural 2 and Pumper 1 were assigned to shuttle water from a hydrant located about a mile away.
The smaller aluminum mobile home and the storage shed were destroyed. Firefighters remained on the scene for about 4 hours to be sure that a rekindle did not occur.
