MVA with Entrapment in Keating Township, Pennsylvania

On Sunday, January 15, 2006, at 1:45 pm, the Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Bradford City Fire Department Paramedic Ambulance were dispatched to a reported car into a tree with an unresponsive victim.

Two Rescue Pumpers with fifteen firemen under the command of First Assistant Chief Rick Brocius responded to the accident scene on Route 770 in Keating Township, McKean County, Pennsylvania. Upon arrival, firefighters found a car off the roadway on its side next to a tree with the female driver entrapped.

The vehicle was stabilized with cribbing and firefighters using hydraulic cutters, spreaders and saw-alls removed the roof to extricate the victim. The victim was stabilized at the scene by EMTs and Paramedics and then transported by Bradford City Fire Department ambulance to a helicopter landing zone established by the Hilltop Volunteer Fire Department in nearby Aiken.

A Stat Medevac helicopter transported the critically injured patient to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pennsylvania. Kane based Pennsylvania State Police who investigated the accident determined that the car went out of control after hitting an icy patch on the road.
