Shortly after 11pm, on Thursday, December 8, 2005, the Newark Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a fire on Fifth Street, near Seventh Avenue, for the report of a fire.
Truck 7 called a working fire a few blocks from the scene due to the glow the fire was putting off.
When Truck 7 arrived on scene they called a second alarm and reported a fully involved 2 1/2 story vacant wood frame with fire extending to a 3- story wood frame and a 3- story brick apartment building.
First and second due units were also confronted with severe water problems due to dead hydrants in the area. It took firefighters a little under an hour to bring the fire under control.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
