On Friday, November 25, 2005 at approximately 7pm, the Henderson Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at the Wildhorse Apartment complex located at 2362 N. Green Valley Parkway.
Engine 94 was first to arrive, with Captain Tim Viet reporting a working fire in the attic of a 2-story, Multi-family dwelling. He immediately established command and requested a second alarm, which was filled by the Clark County Fire Department.
All occupants had been evacuated prior to the fire departments arrival and an interior attack was ordered by Captain Veit. Simultanious attacks were conducted in 3 upper floor apartments, with Henderson's aerial platform, Truck 82 set up on the A/D corner and Clark County Fire's aerial platform, Truck 17 set up on the A/D corner in case the interior attack was unsuccessful.
Approximately 30 minutes into the event, all hands were ordered out of the structure and master streams from the 2 aerial platforms as well as a deck gun from Engine 97 were put into use to knock down the fire that had spread above 4 apartment units and vented through the roof. After knocking down the bulk of the fire with the master streams, crews were ordered to advance back into the building to extinguish the remaining hot spots.
The fire displaced 10 families and caused an estimated $250,000 in damage.
Earlier in the day, roofers were using a propane torch during the course of re-roofing the building. The flame from the propane torch was ruled as the cause of the blaze.
During the incident there were 9 engines, 2 aerial platforms, 4 rescues, 2 chief officers, and 1 fire investigator on scene.
