On November 13, 2005, Camden Firefighters from Engine Companies 1, 6, and 8; Ladders 1, and 2; Rescue 1; and Battalion 1 were dispatched at 3:40 pm to 502 Line Street in the South Camden section of the City.
Battalion Chief 1 ( Paul Matyjasik) was first on location and reported he had a 2 story vacant end of a row dwelling with heavy smoke, and fire on the second floor. "All Hands" would be used.
Heavy black smoke was now showing the eves of 504-06-08-10-12 attached occupied dwellings.
Chief Matyjasik requested the second alarm.
They brung Engine Companies 7, and 10; Ladder 3, Gloucester City Ladder 514; Battalion Chief 2 ( Mike DiPascale ); Car 3 Deputy Chief Mo Wilson, and 6 water lines were in service as firefighters were making an aggressive interior attack on the main fire building. Firefighters were now on the second floor of the occupied exposure, pulling ceilings, and cutting off the spread of fire.
Deputy Chief Wilson reported they were making good progress and had stopped the spread of the fire and were confining the blaze to the main fire building. Forty-five minutes later, he placed the fire under control.
Ladder Company 3 was picking up when Captain Andy MaGee saw smoke coming from a vacant dwelling at 524 Line Street.
Battalion Chief 2 ( Di Pascale) reported he had fire the second floor rear, and requested a box bring back Engines Companies 10, 7, and 8; Ladder 3, and Gloucester City Ladder 514.
All companies went to work, using 2 water lines. The fire was placed under control in 15 minutes.
Both Fires are now under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshal's Office.
