The Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department was called to a structure fire downtown Sunday evening around 8:45 pm.
First arriving units reported heavy smoke and made an interior attack. As conditions deteriorated the interior crew withdrew and defensive operations were initiated.
Huntingburg fire chief Glen Kissling requested mutual aid from Ferdinand, St. Henry, Holland and Jasper Volunteer Fire Departments.
Ferdinand supplied a 75' ladder and manpower. Jasper supplied a 75' ladder, a 100' ladder platform and manpower. St. Henry and Holland supplied man power.
Good positioning of aerial and ground streams prevented the fire from spreading to other adjacent structures. 75 Firefighters were estimated to be on scene.
There were no injuries and the cause is still under investigation.
Huntingburg is located in southern Indiana.
