On Sept. 15, 2003 at approximately 2330 hours the Minnetonka, MN fire department was paged on an "all-call" for an explosion and ensuing fire at a residence, in the far east section of town.
Police arrived first and reported heavy smoke showing and the report of one trapped. The occupant was rescued by police and assisted by Hennepin County paramedics.
Minnetonka Chief 2 arrived and assumed command. Engine 1, L-4 E-3 and L-2 arrived and pulled two 1 3/4" and one 2 1/2" handlines and advanced through the front of the well involved dwelling.
A rapid knock down was made, followed by extensive overhaul. Command was terminated by 0157.
An investigation was being conducted by the fire marshall and department investigators.
The Minnetonka fire department serves a city of more than 50,000 living in 28 square miles from 5 fire stations. It has a staff of 7 paid and 80 paid-call firefighters, responding on 7 engines, 5 ladders, 1 heavy rescue, 3 grass rigs and various staff vehicles.
