Wilmington Fire Department firefighters responded to 924 East 27th St. after a call from the next door neighbor about smoke coming from the residence.

Wilmington Fire Department firefighters responded to 924 East 27th St. after a call from the next door neighbor about smoke coming from the residence. First arriving companies found Heavy Smoke showing from the residence. Wilmington Firefighters aggressively attacked the fire which initially was thought to be in the basement. The fire advanced quickly through the walls and concealed spaces to eventually consume the entire two story, brick, middle of the row structure. Thirty firefighters fought the blaze bringing it under control at 0610 hours. The interior of the structure is a total loss. There was smoke damage to five attached homes at 918, 920, 922, 926, and 928 West 27th Street.

No one was home at the time the fire was reported. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the Wilmington Fire Department Fire Marshal
