At 11:14 hours on September 8, 2003, Fairfield fire Units were dispatched to a report of smoke coming from a building. First due units were advised of multiple calls reporting smoke and could see smoke in the sky as they turned out of the station.
First arriving units found heavy fire self venting from sides 2, 3 and 4 and a report of a person trapped on the second floor.
An initial interior attack line was stretched into the front of the structure and multiple lines were deployed to push the fire out of the structure. OV was provided in advance of the attack lines and multiple roof vents were performed by ladder companies from Fairfield and Bridgeport FD's.
Initially constructed as a 1 family home, the home had been modified into a rentable two family occupancy with limited access.
Cause of the fire is undetermined/under investigation. No civilian casualties. One minor fire fighter injury.
6 engines, 2 ladders, 1 rescue, 1 Shift Commander, Fire Marshal, and 2 chief's responded to scene. Depleting town resources, Mutual Aid was provided by Westport and Bridgport FD with an engine and ladder from Bridgeport assisting at scene. Last unit cleared scene at approximately 17:30 hours.
