Shortly after noon on September 2, 2003, Camden NJ fire fighters responded to a fire call at a Auto Repair Garage in the 1700 block of Mt. Ephraim Avenue in the South Camden section of the City.
The first arriving Units found heavy smoke and fire showing from a two story building. The building was closed and boarded up. Batt. Chief 1, Dan Rossi reported that he was going to be using All Hands.
As members of Rescue 1 and Ladder Co. 2 were opening up they found two large cylinders of Oxygen and Acetylene on fire. Two water lines were quickly placed on the tanks to cool them until members were able to remove them from the building.
A Special Call was placed for an additional Engine and Truck Company along with Batt. Chief 2, Dave Yates.
After the tanks were removed from the building, the fire fighters were able to make an interior attack as the fire was now spreading to the second floor of the building.
Ladder Co. 1 and 2 were placed In Service opening up the roof as fire fighters were able to make a quick stop on the fast spreading fire.
The fire is Under Investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshal's Office.
