On August 7, 2003 Engines 38, 40, 41, 42 and Ladder 21 responded to a report of an odor of smoke at 236 Mamaroneck Avenue in the Village of Mamaroneck.
Upon arrival Engine 40 reported to car 2243 he had heavy smoke showing from an approximately 75 x 100, 3 story wood frame structure. Engine 40 established a primary water supply and stretched 2 hand lines into first floor operation.
Ladder 21 was ordered to setup in front of the structure and begin primary searches and vertical ventilation. Engine 38 established a second primary water supply and took in the rear of the structure. Ladder 19 (Mamaroneck Town) requested on Mutual Aid was setup in the rear of the structure to begin roof ventilation. Engine 41 established a secondary water source and relayed to Engine 42 who stretched 2 additional lines into second floor operation.
Car 2243 requested Tower Ladder 2 (Port Chester) to the front of the structure to assist Ladder 21 crews with roof ventilation. Engine 62 (Port Chester) established a secondary water supply and their man power along with Engine 63 (Port Chester) manpower, provided F.A.S.T. team coverage to the numerous crews in operation.
Ladder 26 (Rye) and Engine 11 (Harrison) were brought in for all additional alarms. Engine 267 (West Harrison) was special called for additional manpower and Rescue 1 (Larchmont) was requested to the scene for cascade services. Units remained on scene for 4 hours for overhaul.
