At 12:34 am on May 26, 2005, all three companies of the Geneva Fire Department were dispatched for a reported structure fire in the area of 382 William Street.
The first arriving unit reported a fully involved garage fire behind 390 William St. and struck a Code 35, committing all Geneva units to the scene and bringing the Border City Fire Department into Geneva for standby coverage.
The fire was brought under control in 24 minutes. The structure, which was scheduled for demolition, was a total loss. The cause of the fire has been ruled suspicious and is under investigation.
Quint 1181 was the first unit to clear the scene. Prior to returning to the station, the Folger Hook & Ladder Company and Quint 1181 responded with Border City FD to a reported structure fire on Middle Street in Geneva.
The first arriving unit found a couch on fire in the entrance to an abandoned cold storage building.
The blaze extended to the second floor, igniting stacks of cardboard. The Nester Hose Company and the Hydrant Hose Company also responded to the scene when they cleared from the William Street assignment. Firefighters worked for 46 minutes to bring the smoky, smoldering fire under control.
This fire also was ruled suspicious and is under investigation. The White Springs Road Fire Association provided standby coverage in the City during the second fire.
