Fort Worth firefighters battled a three- alarm commercial building fire in the 1400 block of Henderson St. at Rio Grand early Saturday morning.

The fire destroyed the building located next to the historic market.

The crew of Engine 2 found a large one-story, 350x50 commercial building fully involved. They immediately began attacking the fire which kept them in a defensive mode.

Battalion 2 called for a second alarm.

Due to the rapid spread of fire, the engines had to be repositioned from the initial attack locations. Low water pressure hampered efforts forcing several engines to have long lays from different mains to supply units engaged in firefighting.

One firefighter was hit in the head by falling wood from the ceiling and was taken to a local hospital.

The fire, suspicious in nature, required 10 engines, 4 ladders, 4 chiefs, the mobile command unit and other resources.
