Memphis Firefighters Respond to House Fire

On the cold Saturday at 1204 hrs, Memphis Fire Dept dispatchers received numerous calls for a report of a house on fire in Hickory Hill in South East Memphis.

On the cold Saturday at 1204 hrs, Memphis Fire Dept dispatchers received numerous calls for a report of a house on fire in Hickory Hill in South East Memphis. Engines 55, 52, Truck 27, Rescue 1, Air Truck 1, Battalion 13, Battalion 8, Division 2 , Unit 27, Rehab 1 responded.

Engine 55 reported on the scene within a short amount of time and had substantial amount of fire showing from the 2 story house with threat to an adjacent exposure. Firefighters also encountered grass and a fence on fire in the front yard.

Engine 55 pulled dual 1 3/4 preconnects for a quick attack and to protect exposures. Engine 52, the second in company layed a 5 inch supply line and took the plug just down the street.

Firefighters battled the fire for more than 30 mins before reporting it under control. Command made a request for 1 additional engine company and truck company for man power. Engine 53 and Truck 26 were sent. Extensive heat and smoke damage occured throughout the occupied structure along with minor heat damage to to the adjacent house on the delta sector. Red Cross assistance was provided for a family of 5 adults. There was no reported injuries. 411 and 417 are in charge of investigations.

This was one of a dozen working fires fought in Memphis this day including a large church fire in North Memphis that required the use of 3 ladder pipes, 2 deckguns and several big handlines .
