Atlantic Beach, North Carolina Firefighters Perform Confined Space Rescue

On October 26, 2004,while conducting a Confined Space Rescue class, the Atlantic Beach Fire Department Technical Rescue Team in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina was dispatched for mutual aid from a neighboring department.

On October 26, 2004,while conducting a Confined Space Rescue class, the Atlantic Beach Fire Department Technical Rescue Team in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina was dispatched for mutual aid from a neighboring department. The incident took place in the Town of Pine Knoll Shores.

Fire Chief Adam Snyder and members of the technical rescue team, Rescue 1 and Ladder 341 arrived on scene. Members of the technical rescue team set up a rigging system with ropes and a tripod to extricate the victim from the confined space.

The victim was 34 year old male that fell into a two foot by two foot hole. The hole was approximately 14 feet deep with a concrete slab at the bottom. Technical rescue team members extricated the victim, who had sustained several broken bones, and transported him to the local hospital for care.
