Fire Heavily Damages Home in Hewlett, New York

On Monday, October 18, the volunteers of the Hewlett Fire Department were activated for a report of a house fire at 800 Daniel Drive off Hungry Harbor Rd.

On Monday, October 18, the volunteers of the Hewlett Fire Department were activated for a report of a house fire at 800 Daniel Drive off Hungry Harbor Rd.

Nassau County Police arrived to heavy fire in this 2-story private dwelling. All occupants were reported out of the house.

First due, Hewlett engine stretched 1 3/4 to the front door while Lawrence/Cedarhurst truck went to work venting and searching.

The fire, which had been burning for a while before fire department arrival, had extended from the first floor to the second and into the attic on the #4 side of the house. Two Woodmere firemen were stopped by the flames and intense heat but escaped via portable ladder and went back to work.

This fire was brought under control by the Hewlett Fire Department within 45 minutes with the help of Woodmere, Valley Stream, Lawrence/Cedarhurst and Inwood Fire Departments.
