Los Angeles, California Firefighters Battle Fire in Plating Company

Sixteen companies of firefighters, seven chief officer command teams, four rescue ambulances, one EMS battalion captain, and other LAFD support resources under the direction of Deputy Chief Mario Rueda responded to a major emergency fire in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles late Thursday afternoon, September 2, 2004.

The first call was received at 4:46 PM and first arriving units reported a one-story, 75' x 75' commercial occupancy with fire through the roof. The roof of the structure collapsed in the early stages of the fire, causing firefighters to utilize heavy stream appliances, outside the building until the bulk of the fire was controlled.

It took firefighters one hour and 27 minutes to declare a knockdown on the fire. The fire was confined to the "Bronzeway Plating Corp."

There were no injuries to either civilians or firefighters. The loss was estimated at $1,500,000 and the cause is under investigation.
