Approximately 12 a.m. on Sunday Feb., 15, a motorist walked in to the Cleveland, Okla. Police and Fire Department and advised of a fire on the north east corner of Osage and Broadway.
Cleveland Police officers responded to the scene while the dispatcher toned out for the fire department. Officers found a building fully involved with immediate exposure threats. Engine 3's crew set up command and started fire attack. Dispatch also paged out Pawnee, Peninsula, North 48, Hominy, and Jennings fire departments.
Other units from Cleveland and the mutual aid department's exposure protection established with the use of Truck 1 and hand lines from other crews. Collapse of the building on fire was expected so a perimeter was well established.
Crews were sent in to surrounding buildings to check for extension, and extinguished several hot spots in the adjacent building.
Control time was at approximately 2:07 a.m., and Engine 3 was moved closer to the building. and Mutual aid departments were released at approximately 2:40 a.m. Cleveland Fire Department had units on scene until approximately
The Department of Transportation set up a detour around the building.
The fire scene had about 49 firefighters and 21 apparatus. Cleveland Volunteer Fire Auxiliary supplied rehab. Mercy Regional Ambulance service had two trucks on standby and the Pawnee County Sheriff's Office had deputies for traffic control.
