January 13, 2008 - Just after 1700 hours on Sunday evening, MetCom in Eaglewood, Colo. received multiple calls reporting heavy black smoke showing from the roof of an apartment building on Dry Creek Road & Fulton Street. As units from South Metro Fire Rescue were en route, a second alarm was called for due to the incoming reports.
First due Engine 33 arrived on scene at 10001 East Dry Creek Road to find a three story wood frame apartment building still under construction with heavy black smoke showing from the third floor and roof. Shortly after units got on scene, heavy fire began showing from the third floor and propane tanks started to vent. Defensive operations began and a third alarm was struck bringing mutual aid from Parker & Littleton Fire. Fire vented through the roof and exposure protection was put in place on other nearby buildings. Only one other structure received minor damage.
At the peak of the incident several master streams were in operation including four aerials. Crews remained on scene through the night and a cause is still under investigation.
