The Mount Jewett, Pa. Volunteer Fire Department recently held a 16 hour Pennsylvania State certified Structural Burn Class. The two-day class involved both classroom work and actual live firefighting scenarios in a two-story residential structure that was donated to the fire department for training.
Class room work included Firefighter Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, Incident Command System, Accountability, Hose Streams, Ventilation and how attack, backup, RIT, safety and rehab work together. Twenty-nine firefighters from Mount Jewett, Kane, Bradford Township, Ridgway, Smethport, Lewis Run, Hamlin Township and Wilcox volunteer fire departments completed the class. Pumpers from Mount Jewett, Kane, Bradford Township, Lafayette Township and Wilcox were used to supply hand lines and master streams. Tankers from Lewis Run, Smethport and Hamlin Township were used to shuttle water from a nearby manufacturing facility to the scene. Seven Pennsylvania State Fire Service instructors were involved in teaching the course.See Related Training Articles
