Renton and King County Fire District 20 firefighters responded to a report of white and gray smoke coming from a house in the 500 block of Raymond NW, just before noon on Nov. 18.
Travis Justice called 9-1-1 after he noticed the house next to the one he was working on was on fire. While units were en route, several more 9-1-1 calls advised of a fire on the west hill of the city; which could be seen for miles around.
Four engines, one ladder truck, one aid unit, one battalion chief and one safety officer were on the initial dispatch. An additional engine was order with a thermal column and flames visible.
The first on-scene unit found heavy black smoke and flames from side D of a two story wood frame residential structure. The engine laid two attack lines and a supply line to another engine who grab a water supply. Additional attack lines were laid from the water supply engine to make an initial attack from the inside and outside near two adjunct homes.
An initial 360 found heavy involvement of C and D on the first floor. Units were able to extinguish the fire within 30 minutes and monitor for hot spots in the attic. Most of the fire damage was limited to the living room and kitchen areas; while the rest of the home had smoke and water damage.
A Renton Fire investigator is working to determine the cause of the fire. No damage estimate was available. There were no injuries to firefighters and the homeowners were not home at the time of the fire.
