On Monday, June 25, the Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Bradford City Fire Department were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Minard Run Road in Bradford Township. Bradford Township responded with one rescue engine and the Bradford Fire Department responded with a paramedic ambulance.
After receiving a scene report indicating a roll over with entrapment from the first arriving firefighter, Fire Chief Dan Burkhouse upgraded the response to include a second rescue engine from Bradford Township. With the vehicle lying on the driver's side, firefighters stabilized the vehicle using rescue struts and cribbing. Hydraulic cutters and a saws-all were used to remove the roof behind the rear seats to allow access to the patient. Bradford City EMS personnel determined that the patient had suffered injuries requiring a MedEvac to transport the patient to a trauma center.
Olean, NY, based MercyFlight helicopter was dispatched to a landing zone that was established at the Pennhills Golf Course. Chief Burkhouse requested mutual aid from the Lewis Run Volunteer Fire Department to assist one of Bradford Township's rescue engines establish the landing zone. MercyFlight transported the victim to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, NY. Firefighters completed the extrication in seven minutes.
