Firefighters in Baltimore County, MD fought one of the largest fires in county history starting on Sunday night June 3rd at a warehouse complex in the Violetville area.
First arriving crews to Fire Box 34-1 at 1401 Rome Road reported heavy smoke showing from a warehouse. A second alarm was quickly called, followed by third, fourth, fifth and sixth alarms and multiple special calls as dozens of fire apparatus from Baltimore County and surrounding jurisdictions responded to the scene. The situation deteriorated rapidly as firefighters were hampered by low water pressure, wind gusts and a large fire volume, and more than 130,000 square feet of warehouse space burned. The blaze was called under control on Monday but firefighters continued to fight small flare-ups for a few days.
Affected were Wollenweber's Trucking and Warehousing and also the Casey Cares Foundation. One veteran BCoFD Battalion Chief with more than 35 years on the job said this fire was the second or third largest he can recall.
