Poughkeepsie NY - On Oct. 30 at 3:12 p.m., the city of Poughkeepsie responded to a fire in a church. Command reported heavy fire showing and called in the second and third alarms bringing multiple companies to the scene. The fast moving fire tore though the historic church.
A large plume of smoke from the fire could be seen for miles. Command requested a fourth and eventually fifth alarm to supply water for the four ladders that were in use and relief. The historic church that sat at the intersection of S. Hamilton St & Hooker Ave. for 117 years is now just a pile of rubble.
Firefighters had the fire under control in about an hour and a half but remained on scene while fire investigators, city police, and the ATF investigated the blaze.
