Members found the operator of the tractor free and away from the equipment.

On Thursday, May 24, the Odessa Fire Co and New Castle County Medic 5 were dispatched at 1354 hrs for farm equipment on fire. There were reports of subjects trapped as well as power lines down in the area of Marl Pit Rd / Jacks Way.

Tanker 24 under the command of Chief Getty responded with a crew of six one minute after dispatch and arrived on scene with in four minutes. Members found the operator of the tractor free and away from the equipment. A live main power line was entangled in the farm equipment's air seeder.

Firefighters were unable to start firefighting operations due to the live wires and the area being energized until Delmarva Power arrived. The crew of Engine 4-5 supplied by Engine 24-3 placed two 1 3/4 inch hand lines in service and quickly knocked the fire down. Units were placed back in service at 1520hrs.

Units responded with a total of 29 firefighters; Tanker 24, Engine 4-5, Engine 24-3, Rescue 4, and Odessa Fire Police.

Other agencies that responded were DEL DOT (Delaware Department of Transportation), Delaware State Police, New Castle County Paramedics and DNREC (Division of Natural Resource).
