In Brighton, Ala. on Sunday, April 8, at 8:47 p.m. fire destroyed a house as firefighters from three local departments battled the blaze.
Flames were observed from more than a mile away from I-59. The 9-1-1 calls came in from several neighbors reporting that a house at 4105 Huntsville Ave. was on fire. The firefighters from Brighton, Lipscomb and Bessemer responded.
It was obvious that an interior attack was absolutely out of the question. The home was already fully involved and the extreme heat was endangering several additional exposures. Fire crews set up an aggressive defensive attack, and worked to keep several nearby structures from becoming involved. The heat was so intense that even onlookers moved back.
Firefighters were still on the scene at 10 p.m. wetting down hot spots and conducting overhaul. No one was home at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
