All companies of the Community Volunteer Fire Department were called to a structure fire in southwest Houston early Saturday morning, around 3:15 am, January 20, 2007. Quick and first on the scene was Engine 2, who confirmed heavy fire coming from the rear of a one-story house. The family of the home was safely out of the burning house when the first engine arrived.
Firefighters quickly laid lines for exposure control and engaged an offensive interior attack. Fire rapidly spread throughout the attic and roof, and made the situation extremely dangerous for the firefighters inside. Command immediately ordered an evacuation and attacked the fire in defensive mode.
The fire slowly came under control and the last few hot spots were put out by 5:15 am. Firefighters worked throughout the morning overhauling the home as Harris County Arson investigators worked to determine the cause.
Approximately twenty-five volunteer firefighters helped fight this fire. Most of the home and belongings were heavily damaged or destroyed. No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation.
