On Jan.10, at 1357 hrs., units from United Steam Fire Engine Company, No. 3 in Frederick, Md. were alerted to a motor vehicle collision. A member of the Montgomery County Advanced Technical Rescue Team reported the wreck was on eastbound U.S. 340 at MD 351 (Ballenger Creek Pike).
Units responding from United Fire Company included rescue squad 3, ambulance 39, duty 3, and chief 3-1. Also assisting with the collision were Frederick County medic 31, EMS 910 (ALS lieutenant), and Safety Officer 100. In addition, United Fire Company Westview Station Engine 311 and Ambulance 319 and Independent Hose Company, Ambulance 19 were dispatched.
A Frederick County school bus had t-boned a car, and entrapped the driver. Duty 3 established 340 Command; and eastbound traffic was stopped.
The crew from Rescue Squad 3 arrived and immediately began to stabilize the passenger car to initiate extrication. The school bus was occupied by a driver and one adult passenger. Crews from Ambulance 39 and Medic 31 began to evaluate all potential patients. Rescue Squad 3's crew removed the roof of the car to facilitate removal of the patient.
The driver of the bus was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for evaluation as well as the passenger of the bus, who refused treatment on the scene, but accepted transport. The driver of the car was transported by Ambulance. None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.
